Links express a calculation dependency
A reference is not a copied number. When its source changes, the dependent result recalculates. Reference choices exclude paths that would create a cycle. For example, personnel driven by a revenue line cannot simultaneously supply that same line through Revenue per FTE if this closes a dependency loop.
One item in several views
Linked personnel or revenue can be inspected in another item’s expanded view without becoming a duplicate model object. Name and method edits apply to the owning item in the selected scenario. Review active/source-excluded status when a visible item is not contributing to an aggregate.
Example workflow
Connect a COGS unit cost to a Price × volume revenue line. Change the source volume once and inspect both schedules. If removing a referenced line is rejected, remove or replace its dependencies first; do not substitute an unrelated reference simply to clear the warning.
