Handbook / Analyze

Eligible inputs, sources and unavailable results

Understand why an assumption can be selected, why another is excluded and which source actually changes.

Methods and settings

Method / inputBehavior
Writable sourceA supported active assumption whose ownership and context match the analysis.
Derived outputA target or inspection value, not automatically an independent variable.
Intermediate EBITDASupported downstream analysis shock; not a permanent direct EBITDA input.

Follow the active source

Eligibility depends on the active method, forecast source, period, scenario, operator and available dependencies. An annual result derived from a monthly Business Line is not a second independent annual assumption. Actuals and sources after the target period are not generally eligible forecast drivers. A deleted line or inactive method can make a saved input unavailable. Return to its owning source or choose another eligible assumption.

Use intermediate EBITDA deliberately

Supported annual forecast EBITDA can be shocked for downstream Value, Deals and Ownership targets. The adjustment adds operating income when positive or operating expense when negative; connected tax, financing and cash effects recalculate. The adjustment itself does not rewrite volume or working-capital assumptions. Other operating inputs selected in the same analysis can still change those assumptions and their results.

In deterministic analysis and Stochastic, the intermediate EBITDA value is measured against the original current EBITDA. With original EBITDA of 31 EURk, an absolute intermediate value of 32 EURk means an additive adjustment of +1 EURk. It does not force the resulting EBITDA to 32 EURk after other selected inputs change. If those other inputs first produce EBITDA of 35 EURk, the combined result is 36 EURk. Stochastic Deviation mode adds the sampled deviation to the original reference before calculating this adjustment.

Reverse labels the variable EBITDA adjustment and starts it at zero. Its bounds and proposed values are signed adjustments, applied after the other selected operating inputs. Entering +1 EURk therefore adds 1 EURk to their recalculated EBITDA; it is not a request for an EBITDA level of 1 EURk. An intermediate adjustment supports analysis and Preview but has no permanent operating input to Apply. A candidate containing it cannot be partially applied; choose the underlying writable business assumptions when an actionable operating plan is needed.

Respect coupled inputs

A supported 13W collection-profile percentage moves with an offsetting profile component so the total remains 100%. It is not an isolated extra collection. Overlapping coupled inputs cannot be treated as independent two-axis assumptions. Plan and week identities must also match. See 13W analysis for virtual overrides and the source affected by Reverse Apply.

Unavailable is not zero

An output can be unavailable because a denominator is not meaningful, an operator lacks setup, a source was removed or a sampled assumption produces an invalid calculation. Read the reason and correct the source. Do not replace N/M or a dash with zero merely to obtain a chart, probability or solved result. Review invalid Stochastic runs and blocked Reverse inputs explicitly.
