What is an online Three-Statement Model?

A three-statement model connects operating performance, financial position and cash flow. The Income Statement shows earnings, the Balance Sheet tracks assets, liabilities and equity, and the Cash Flow Statement explains the change in cash. Working online means you can build and inspect that connected forecast in your browser.

BalanceCheat provides the linked structure. You supply the business assumptions and review the results. The guide to how the three statements link explains the relationships behind the model.

Model all three financial statements in one place

Plan revenue and costs alongside investment, working capital and financing. A change in sales can affect earnings, receivables and cash together. The statements use one model, so you can review the operating plan and its funding consequences side by side.

Start with Simple assumptions or use Advanced mode for named model lines and period-specific methods. For example, working-capital assumptions help explain why higher profit does not always produce an immediate increase in cash.

Compare scenarios and model adjustments

In Advanced mode, scenarios let you change selected assumptions while retaining the shared Base model. Unchanged inputs inherit Base, making it easier to distinguish an upside or downside case from the underlying plan. The scenario modeling guide covers this workflow.

Use adjustment groups for supported normalizations or pro-forma changes and inspect their contributions to adjusted results. Adjustments have their own model lines and period inputs; the adjustments reference explains how they are applied.

Analyze the model directly

Select a financial statement line in Advanced mode to inspect its values visually. The Inspector supports views such as absolute values and growth, as well as scenario comparisons. Statement Flow provides a detailed bridge and a compact flow summary for the Income Statement and Cash Flow.

Follow selection as you move through the model, or pin the Inspector to keep one analytical target in view while you edit elsewhere. The values continue to update from the model.

Financial modeling in your browser

The full workspace opens directly, without an account or software installation. Your models are saved in the browser-local Model Library. Keep a model backup if you need a portable copy; clearing browser storage can remove local models.

This browser-based workflow suits a connected forecast without first assembling spreadsheet links. If you are comparing approaches, see the Excel alternative for financial modeling.

When is a Three-Statement Model useful?

Use it to build a forecast, test a business plan or examine how growth changes profitability and funding needs. Scenario analysis can help you compare different assumptions about sales, costs, collection timing or investment.

A connected operating forecast also provides a starting point for valuation preparation. Review opening balances and operating assumptions before relying on a result. Open the model above to work through your own case.

Frequently asked questions

What is a three-statement model?

It is a financial model that links the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement. Together, they show performance, financial position and the movement in cash.

Can I build a three-statement model online for free?

Yes. The BalanceCheat model opens in your browser and is free to use without an account. You can begin with a sample company or create a model with your own inputs.

How are the three financial statements linked?

Net income affects equity and is the starting point for indirect operating cash flow. Working-capital changes, investment and financing affect cash and balance-sheet positions. Closing cash in the cash flow reconciliation agrees with balance-sheet cash.

Do I need Excel to use BalanceCheat?

No. Modeling and calculations run in the browser. You do not need to download a spreadsheet or install Excel to use the full model.

Can I compare scenarios in the model?

Yes. Advanced mode supports scenarios with selected overrides of the Base model. The Inspector can compare scenario results without changing the active modeling scenario.
