Build a full financial model by quarter
Plan quarterly revenue and costs while following working capital, investment, financing and cash in the same statements. The statement-linkage guide explains the dependencies. Quarterly planning provides a compact operating forecast without separating the P&L from the funding consequences.
Move from annual assumptions to quarterly sources
Activating Quarterly first shows outputs derived from existing sources. To forecast a supported line directly by quarter, replace its source with Quarterly and review the confirmation. Initialization preserves that modeled branch. Enter quarter-specific methods and inputs through the normal Model controls, with a starting period and Apply through where available.
Use real fiscal quarters
Quarter boundaries follow Fiscal Year End. With 30 September as the year end, Q1 is October–December and Q2 January–March. The quarter ID follows the fiscal year, with real start/end dates and durations. The custom fiscal-year guide explains non-calendar reporting years.
Roll quarterly outputs into annual results
Quarterly flows sum into annual ledger results. Opening and closing balance-sheet stocks use the corresponding boundary values. Margins and returns are computed from components, rather than averaging or summing displayed percentages. The period and source reference documents these distinctions.
Combine quarterly sources with monthly detail
Independently modeled business lines can use Annual, Quarterly, Monthly or Weekly sources. Parents aggregate their children, and Go to source reaches the controlling assumptions. Monthly and Weekly views derive the applicable outputs; changing a view alone does not create finer independent inputs. Use monthly modeling when direct month-specific assumptions are the next task.
Review a quarter without losing the model
Quarterly planning is useful for reporting-cycle forecasts, investment phasing and scenario discussions where monthly detail would obscure the main assumptions. The methods reference explains supported drivers; scenario documentation explains inheritance and overrides within the same financial model.
Frequently asked questions
Can I model directly by quarter?
Yes. Use Quarterly as the source for supported independently modeled lines and enter assumptions through their Model controls.
Do quarterly assumptions roll into annual results?
Yes. Flows aggregate to the same annual ledger results. Stocks and ratios follow their financial measure rules.
Can some lines be quarterly while others are monthly or weekly?
Yes. Business lines can have different sources; parent totals aggregate their outputs.
Are quarters based on my fiscal year?
Yes. Fiscal Year End determines the fiscal-year boundary and quarter mapping. Month and ISO-week identities retain their real dates.
